Picking a Host...And Picking Coal

As I'm sure you TV game show fans know by now, Bob Barker has retired as host of "The Price Is Right", and has been looking for a replacement. Yesterday afternoon, his replacement was named, and comedian Drew Carey was called on to replace Barker. My mom belives that Bob Barker picked his successor wisely, and I seem to agree. Both me and my mom think that this is something the Drew Carey should be good at, and with every justification. He has had some game show hosting experience, as host of the first "Pepsi Play For A Billion", and will be hosting a CBS Primetime game show, "Power Of 10". In my opinion, Carey should be right at home hosting "TPIR".

Now the PICKING COAL part: I'm heading back to the Coal Region Of Pennsylvania after I get this post up. Me and my mom need to get back up there to finish up some things that we did not get done when we went up last year (which see my post in the July 2006 Archives).

Kaboom, Kaboom

As we get closer to 4th of July, I thought we would discuss something we all associate with this holiday: fireworks displays. I have this Springfield News-Leader article what goes into these events, and I found it pretty interesting. One thing thet hit on is how these shows are choreographed. For example, let's take James River Assembly's "I Love America" celebration. According to the aforementioned article, Kert Parsley, JRA's administration director, records the music to be used on a CD, then A.M. Pyrotechnics, who provides the fireworks for the event, takes the CD and matches it up with whatever fireworks they're using, and then they take it from there. Now, if A.M. Pyrotechnics sounds familiar to you, then you know they provide the fireworks for the display at Hammons Field after Friday night Springfield Cardinals games, as well as the Red, White, and Boom celebration here in my hometown of Mt. Vernon, MO.
