Let's Go To Da Grove

After a house hunt that went nowhere...and another out-picking-coal adventure in the PA Coal Region...I get back to blogging with this:

Whenever I do go up to the so-called Coal Region of Pennsylvania, one of the places that I like to go to is Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg, PA, referred to the locals as "da Grove". Well, they have been getting some good press here as of up late. Accoring to this editorial from the Shamokin News-Item, Knoebels is a massive tourist draw that brings people and their money into the area. I seem to agree. Folks, this is true with ANY amusement park. Also, on August 16, Knoebels had a record crowd of 30,000 people, with traffic jams ensuing on PA Routes 54 and 487. Here's a map of the area I'm talking about:

Also, on that same day, the parks owner, Richard "Dick" Knoebel (my uncle Vern refers to him as "Dickie Baby"), was at the park, addressing the Brush Valley Regional Chamber Of Commerce. So as you can see, an amusement park can be of help to the economy of whereever the park is.
