Oh, No, Not Again!

On the heels of the ride accident that I blogged about under "A YO-YO Diet", we have had yet another amusement ride accident. This time, we're dealing with Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The accident I'm talking about happened on Cedar Point's Wildcat roller coaster. According to RideAccidents.com, here's what happened: One of the coaster's cars failed to negotiate the first hill, and as the car rolled back down the hill, it hit another car. In the accident, 9 people were injured; thankfully, none of the injuries appear to be serious. The ride has since been shut down, with no word on when it will be inspected and reopened. Cedar Point is considered to be the Roller Coaster Capital of the World--they have 17 roller coasters there. I wonder if someone will raise a big fuss over this ride accident.

David vs. David

By now, you all probably have heard of the Biblical story of the battle between David and Goliath. Well, this evening, we had a battle of David vs. David. The "American Idol" Season 7 finale just finished up about 15 minutes before I made this post on the blog. In this episode, David Cook was matched up against David Archuleta. David Garringer Jr., who runs this blog, couldn't be much happier. And when the dust...and the traditional white confetti had settled...David Cook won by about 12 million votes. This means that David Cook is your new American Idol. After watching all this unfold, I wished I was there live in person. After all, can't you imagine David Cook, David Archuleta, and David Garringer Jr. basking under the shower of the white confetti...especially with all those lovely ladies in the audience up by stage? It would sure make my evening great and make me proud.

A YO-YO Diet

Well, folks, looks like we're looking at another amusement ride accident in the news. This time, we go to that fabled "Frog-Jumping" fair, and if you've heard the fable, then you know I'm talking about the Calaveras County Fair in Angels Camp, California. There was this ride there called the Yo-Yo. The ride has a series of swings that are attached to arms, which in turn are attached to a central column. As the ride speeds up, the swings pivot outward. I know all about this because I have been on some Yo-Yo's. According to RideAccidents.com and this report from CBS3 in Philadelphia, witnesses said the saw the ride's arms collapse, dragging the riders along the ground and injuring 23 of them. When I watched ABC's "Good Morning America" report on the accident, they said that it was time for more federal oversight on amusement rides. I agree with them 100%. I think more oversight can prevent mishaps like this from happening again.
