I've Been Out Picking Coal

Well, not really. However, I was in a portion of this country that best known for coal, that being the Coal Region of Pennsylvania (Shamokin, Mount Carmel, etc.). And one thing I can tell about this area is that it's a lot different than it is here in Mount Vernon, Missouri. One such thing that stands out is that most of the houses up there in PA are duplexes (or, as they call them, "doubles". If you live in one side of one of those duplexes, like my aunt Linda, who lives in Shamokin, you are said to own "half a double". Also, most of these duplexes have a third door below the other two, presumably for coal storage.

Hello, folks. I want to welcome you to my new blog, THE GARRINGER REPORT. Before we get going, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

My name is David L. Garringer Jr., and I live here in Mount Vernon, Missouri. Most of my relatives also live here in Mt. Vernon, but I also have other relatives in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. My three main interests are TV game shows, carnivals, and amusement parks, and those three items will be the subject of most of my posts on this blog. As with any blog, I will appreciate any comments that you all might have about any of my posts on here.

Now that you now know about myself, let's get started. My first post deals with an accident at a 4th of July event in Houston, Missouri. A few months ago at work, I received some training about electrical safety as part of a workplace safety video. Well, a carnival worker at the aforementioned 4th of July found out about electrical safety the hard way. While setting up a Ferris wheel, the worker fell and got tangled up in a wire, causing him to get electrocuted. I have the story linked right here for you all to read. After reading the report for myself, I hope that there is an investigation on this accident, if there is not one already taking place now.
